LOUDPIXELS PRIVACY POLICY

Last updated: October 2026 · Publisher: Ponderbyte (Frédéric Valente)
Summary: LoudPixels does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data over the internet. Everything happens locally on your computer and your local home network.

1. Microphone Access

LoudPixels reads the active microphone's audio stream in real time solely to compute an instantaneous loudness level (in dBFS).

  • No audio is ever recorded, saved to disk, or transmitted anywhere (neither to the internet nor to the local smartphone remote).
  • Each ~10 ms audio buffer is reduced to a single number (RMS loudness) in memory and immediately discarded.

2. Local Data Stored on Your PC

LoudPixels stores the following files locally on your PC inside C:\ProgramData\LoudPixels\:

  • config.json — Your chosen sensitivity setting and a salted cryptographic hash (PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256) of the parent password. The plain-text password is never stored.
  • stats\YYYY-MM-DD.csv — Anonymous per-minute loudness summaries (average and peak dB) for the last 7 days, used only to draw the "This week" chart in the Parent Panel. Older files are automatically deleted.
  • agent.log / service.log — Technical diagnostic logs (startup/shutdown events, error codes). Contains no personal information or audio content.

Uninstalling LoudPixels gives you the option to delete all of these files.

3. Local Wi-Fi Smartphone Remote & Zero Internet Traffic

  • Zero Internet / Cloud Connections: LoudPixels makes no outbound connections to the internet, cloud servers, analytics services, or third parties. There are no accounts, no telemetry, no crash reporters, and no automatic update checks.
  • Local Home Wi-Fi Remote Control (TCP Port 8765): LoudPixels runs a lightweight HTTP server on local TCP port 8765 (restricted to Windows Private network profiles) so a parent on the same home Wi-Fi network can open http://<PC-LAN-IP>:8765 on their smartphone to view the current dB level and adjust sensitivity.
  • Password Authentication: All smartphone remote actions and status queries require authenticating with the parent password (verified locally against the PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 hash using a temporary random session token in memory, protected by per-IP rate limiting). Only the numeric dB level and sensitivity state are exchanged over your home LAN—never audio.

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA / GDPR-K)

LoudPixels is designed for households with children and collects zero information from or about children (or anyone else).
